Chinese Tea for mooncakes

In continuation from the previous article, teas and mooncakes are a match made in full moon heaven. Mid-autumn festival gatherings are often a recipe for stomach discomfort and insomnia from the overeating of greasy food and late night gossiping. This calls for an herbal tea that aids in digestion and calms the mind to ease one into a good night’s sleep with a happy tummy.

The main ingredient in today’s tea is lotus leaf. Much like hawthorn berries, lotus leaves play the dual role of food and medicine. Owing to its fat-burning reputation and its ability to promote digestion, lotus leaves are commonly used as a dieting tea to combat greasiness.

Lotus Leaf Good Night Tea

Ingredients (Serves 3-4 people)

Lotus Leaf, 10 g Chinese Senega Root (Yuan Zhi), 10 g Orange Peel, 6 g Red Dates, 2

Preparation

  1. Slice the red dates.

  2. Boil all ingredients in water for 3 minutes.

  3. Turn off the gas, let the tea sit for 10 minutes and it is ready to serve.

Lotus leaves are used clear summer heat, promote urination, and can treat diarrhea caused by a weak spleen. Chinese Senega Root (Yuan Zhi) calms the mind, improves the memory and relieves swelling and abscesses. While it can relieve coughs by reducing phlegm, it is most often used to treat insomnia.

Red date replenishes Qi and Blood and regulates the digestive system. It is a common ingredient in beauty and health care products as it nourishes the skin and produces a rosy complexion. Red dates also calm the mind and improve sleep quality. They are known to be rich in vitamins A, B2 and C.

荷叶 10克 远志 10克 陈皮 6克 红枣 2梅

做法

先把红枣切片,将所有材料放入锅中,加水煮3分钟,加盖泡10分钟,即可饮用。

荷叶 清暑利水,治脾虚泄泻,解油腻,助消化,有祛脂肪和瘦身减肥的作用。含丰富的黄酮类物质,故能有效的提高抗氧化功能,可用于改善冠心病、高血压。

陈皮 理气健脾,燥湿化痰。常用于治疗消化不良,腹胀腹痛,恶心呕吐,咳嗽痰多。陈皮也可降低血清胆固醇作用。

远志 安神益智,祛痰开窍,消散痈肿。有镇定和催眠的功效,能祛痰止咳,治失眠,治健忘,抗衰老等。

红枣 调和脾胃消化功能,补益气血,安神。大枣有美容保健作用,使面色红润,也具有镇静催眠之功。大枣也富含维生素A,B2 及C。
